part 353 whalers on the moon

We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

Enjoy part 353!

I adore Tokyo Godfathers, it's pretty much my #1 animated movie ever. Satoshi Kon is just great in general.

The Secret of NIMH is a personal favourite. I thought it was well-known, because I'd watched the hell out of it when I was a kid, but everyone I mention it to (in real life, anyway) has no recollection of it. Which is a damn shame, 'cause it's such a good movie (though kind of scary in parts, heh.)

I forgot but the second Care Bears movie and Little Nemo Adventures in Slumberland and Fluppy Dogs movie.

And Alvin and The Chipmunks (the one from 1989). That movie is actually good and I don't even like The Chipmunks.

Twice Upon a Time! It's from the early 80s and it's a cut-out animation movie. It's about two workers at a dream factory who get fired for being terrible at their job. It's. much better than I'm making it sound, I promise. It's my favorite movie ever, but it's pretty hard to find nowadays. There's two versions, one "edited" version which was cut down for broadcasts (and was shown on Cartoon Network a few times, I believe) and then the "uncut" version, which is mostly the same but with the raunchier jokes intact and a few swears left in the dialogue. I imagine the latter might be more common online, but the former is what the official VHS release was, I think. It was never released on DVD because the directors had a falling out and that's also why it's difficult to find anything hahaha OOPS.

tl;dr Twice Upon a Time is really good but also really hard to find for reasons.

SECRET OF KELLS SECRET OF KELLS SECRET OF KELLS

You will not be disappointed it's got beautiful animation and it's about the making of the Chi-Rho page in the Book of Kells during the Viking attacks on Ireland and there's magic and wood spirits and a cat and some really frightening (for a kid's movie) Viking attack scenes and the animation and transitions and character designs are gorgeous (they're all done in the style of Hiberno-Saxon illuminations, the color is amazing, the scenery good God the scenery) and it's just a beautiful movie okay please watch it
