part 353 whalers on the moon

We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

I was re-reading the Denmark and Norway during the Second Northern War strips (here). Buhyoo, what cuties.

And before that it was this fancomic in which America finds Hamburg very disappointing.

I just bought this 1888 book called Decorum and it's unintentionally hilarious in the best ways.

Full title page reads DECORUM: A Practical Treatise on Etiquette and Dress of the Best American Society, Including Social, Commercial and Legal Forms, Letter Writing, The Toilet, Toilet Recipes, etc., etc.; also Valuable Suggestions on Self-Culture and Home-Training Revised from the Latest Reliable Authorities by Richard A. Toilet recipes turns out to be actually things like "Cure for corns" and "Rye tooth powder" and "To remove pimples" and is probably the most sensible and down-to-earth segment of this otherwise insufferably pompous book.

Ngl my first thought was to look for some mention of chamber pots or outhouses, but alas! Apparently genteel people are just too gosh-darn decorous for that shit. ◔‿◔
