part 353 whalers on the moon

We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

Enjoy part 353!

rpers, what would you like to see more of in the tags you get (from other rpers or anons)?
is there anything you'd rather not see in tags?

conversely for both anons and rpers, what sort of stuff do you like adding to your tags and is there stuff you avoid adding to your tags?

Stuff you can easily build on

This is hard to describe, and it's something that I unfortunately do as well -

Sometimes there seems to be a sense that the responses are keeping the thread going just for the sake of keeping it going. That there isn't any direction to it, and that it could have been wrapped up neatly several tags ago.

So, don't be afraid to wrap things up or nudge them toward a logical end. As I mentioned, I sometimes keep things going past the point that it's really necessary; sometimes it's because I want to keep playing with that person even though the thread is pretty much played out, other times it's because I just can't think of a good way to end it. So, I need to get better at endings.

One thing that I like is when the other player has some idea of a direction that they want to take things in. It's easier to get a good thread going if there is an actual point to the conversation.

Oh, one more thing, mostly applied to beginnings - I like tags that have some kind of dialogue or action in addition to internal narrative. It's easier for me to respond to things (both as Anon and as Norway) if I have something to respond to, because my character can't read your character's mind.

More goals instead of just random RP

(Anonymous) 2014-07-02 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
??? What kind of goals? Do you mean like plots?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-02 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
no

but instead of just a random interaction, an interaction with some intended goal

so not just

"oh hey sup"

but specific thing in mind

+1

Some sort of plot or goal in mind would be fantastic. I feel that there's less random remarks to respond to these days anyway.

Uhhhhhhh. I'm good with what I get! I think mostly tags that take you out of your comfort zone in terms of reactions are fun. Even if they take you just one step further in any one direction!

Converse: In general, I've been trying to flesh his tags out so they're easier to play off of! I always like adding in dumb jokes, sound effects, and funny text tricks related to the action (like marquee, fading, color, the Lovecrafty thing, etc.) I do apologize if they're gimmicky or annoying, they're just so much fun. I'm sorry about all the dumb dick jokes, too.

...probably not going to stop making them, though.

I love the random conversations he gets into, and the teasing, etc. But I think it was easier to get into sitting down and RPing a bunch of threads all evening, without getting distracted by a million other things, when there was kind of an underlying plot that I could focus on, too. Even with just an anon, like he used to have "anon from last night" and things like that. Build a story with him instead of a long series of one off's. It makes it easier to flesh out responses, too.

I do try to avoid getting into anything more than his boasting about sex stuff lately, but that's more to do with my own current issues that I am dealing with than anything to do with not enjoying it. The more stressed I get, the less interest I have those kinds of things? idk

I second Norway-mun on "don't be afraid to wrap things up or nudge them toward a logical end", ahh, since I need to work on ending threads, too... also seconding Norway-mun's "One thing that I like is when the other player has some idea of a direction that they want to take things in". I especially like threads with actions + dialogue that encourages Japan to react and respond more than typical of him...!

I also love planning out lengthier threads with people (such as for the dressing room or private threads, kink/smut threads, etc.) so please don't feel afraid to ask me for such a thread! Out of meme continuity is fine, too. Because, again, it's nice to play things out with a sort of "direction" in mind, and I can backtag forever, seriously. I also like when I can write a lot for more in depth threads, so, yes...!

(Part of the reason why I'm really looking forward to the potential Battle Royale this year...?!)

I love character development, relationship development and plot. I miss the times we had with all sorts of events going on that involved so many people in so many different ways and there was a lot to play and react from.

Personally I've just been trying to find time to play so sometimes my threads end abruptly. I don't mean for that to happen. And then sometimes things just go on forever. I do try and make threads that go on that long happen elsewhere so we aren't stretching pages and making things take forever to load.

But yes- random and spontaneous is fun but I love having things develop into greater situations/consequences/confrontations. I LIKE THE BUILD.

I agree with what the other RPers have said, even though I am new to RPing this character (hence why his characterization is probably shaky). Tags with actions are easy to build off of. It's also easier to keep a thread going if there is a certain chain of actions/dialogue taking place - not necessarily plot but plot would help.

Of course never be afraid to end a thread with me if it seems to have already finished. I need to get better at that myself but that's because I like to confirm elsewhere that it's okay to end threads if it's my turn to reply. But if it's your turn and you're done with the thread, go ahead and finish it. I am not offended at all by abrupt endings!

I would like him to get new questions besides what about the 21st century shocked you? when I do the Q&A threads. There's only so many different ways to express his reaction to how things have changed.
