part 353 whalers on the moon

We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

Enjoy part 353!

See, this is something that makes me so incensed because I see it happen with Italy a lot too. And at least for me it's like this - if you ignore it you feel like you're just like, secretly endorsing it as fact and helping to spread the lie, but if you go "no wait that's not how it is!" people start treating you as if you're some crazy nationalist who defends their country no matter what and it's not. like that. I'm aware my country is jacked up. it's jacked up as hell it's the most jacked. but it's not jacked up in that way, it's jacked up in this other way and spreading lies helps nobody.

Yeah, exactly! It's like there's only two modes, "complain about everything ever even when it's not actually a problem", and "crazed overzealous nationalist who defends police brutality" or some nonsense like that.

I'm very much aware of what problems Brazil does have, but we are not mindless savages. I think what pisses me off the most is foreigners thinking they can try to save us when we in fact have activism and social policy of our own, thank you very much. (and the last time the United States tried to intervene they started a 20-year long military dictatorship, so you know, thanks for that)
