We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

seriously

it's all fun and games and seeking them out to laugh at them and chuckling and oh this is actually a little fun spot of characterization here and hey there was a cool bit of world building there and wow this one part is actually pretty hot!!!! not the rest. only this one part of course. and then one day you wake up in the middle of avidly reading a 30+ chapters omegaverse fic of a pairing you don't even ship and you ask yourself

+0.5 ...even worse do not laugh at weird kinks that don't even have a following because i kept making jokes about mochi sex and ghosts sex and folklore/mythological creatures sex and now i actually do want it, but... so hard to find :'(

Aaaah that too. Mythology, man. And oddly specific weird stuff nobody else likes.

Actually what definitely got me into omegaverse was an old Sherlock fic I came across completely by accident, called Chamaleon. It wasn't exactly omegaverse, it was sort of a crossover between omegaverse and the old tv show Sentinel and it's really hard to explain but I started reading it almost by accident and got into it a lot. While it wasn't perfect (for starters, it's still unfinished and probably will always be ;_;, and as it often happens with complex, long fics filled with OCs it rather often felt more like original work than fanfic) it had AMAZING world building and a lot of careful buildup to the characters. Which is sort of wasted since it's unfinished (it didn't even get to have any smut in it) but it made me want to read more stuff with similar themes and then it was all downhill.

I've had a similar experience with an omegaverse fic recently, too. The only reason I've read it was because I couldn't sleep, was craving fic of my OTP and had read everything decent already. This one had a fair number of kudos and my OTP as a minor pairing. So yeah, I figured I'd give the first two chapters a shot, go "what the hell is this" and erase it from my memories. 20 minutes later, I glanced at the clock and wondered why the hell I was still up at 03:00 in the morning, trying to catch up to the latest chapter of an omegaverse fic.
