356 vivacious vampires

Oh vampires! Oh meme! It's October, which is officially Halloween season. And... Himaruya is back? Kind of? Sort of? In a way. I wonder if we'll ever find out what happened on Halloween. Or if it will forever remain... a mystery. Much like the decision making process behind most of these titles.

Enjoy part 356!

Book: Jo Nesbø's The Devil's Star. It's a crime novel set in Oslo, complete with horrible murder, and it kept me page-turning; I couldn't put it down. It's part of a series but you don't need to read the rest to understand this one, though there are some characters who also appear in The Redbreast and Nemesis that might have more impact if you read those first. (Speaking of The Redbreast, it's awesome and works well as a stand-alone.)

Movie: I'm a cyborg but that's OK. It's an odd but visually interesting Korean film about a girl who thinks she's a combat cyborg. While trying to discover what her mission is, she falls in love with a boy who thinks he can steal souls. Note - most of this takes place in a mental institution, and obviously it deals with mental illness.

Show: Anno 1790. Crime series set in late 18th-century Stockholm. A field surgeon turned police commissioner tries to work justice within the confines of an unjust system.

Anime: Mushishi. If you like series that are beautiful, slow-toned, and episodic, this is worth a look if you haven't already.

Comic: Ursula Vernon's Digger. It's about a wombat who accidentally tunnels into another world, and her less-than-easy time trying to get back home. I'm reading the omnibus edition and I'm not that far into it yet, but so far it's funny and visually interesting.

Manga: Vinland Saga. Read it if you like vikings. The author did their research and the art is amazing.

Music: ... Uh. Lately I've been listening to an album of piano stock music put out by KPM (the album's under the title "Emotive Piano Scores" in iTunes). Dreams within Dreams by Ian Livingstone is one of the tracks on it. Some of the music on this album was used in the Valiant Hearts soundtrack.

Video Game: Speaking of Valiant Hearts, this game is amazing, and I can't recommend it enough. WWI setting, lovely visual style, characters you quickly become attached to, and a really stirring story. ... Also, there is a dog who follows you around, and you get to pet and interact with him, and I don't know about y'all but that was a bonus for me. :'D
