Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
Mmh. [Dragging herself away from her peach, a bit messy] Perhaps we can dispense with manners at this point. You must excuse me.
[She doesn't have a handkerchief, which is distressing, so she'll daintily drag her sweater up to dab at her chin. She'll take the bread, too, she's not all that picky at the moment, she just has a sweet tooth large enough to take precedence at all times.] Thank you- dare I hope that there is also jam?
[Digging around in the basket, clearly enthused by the thought]
As final meals go, I am reasonably impressed.
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
Oh, please, don't stand to ceremony on my account.
[As if he cares, he hasn't even noticed how dry her hands are. If she asked for a handkerchief he might offer his sleeve, which would be far worse than her sweater.]
Jam? Might be, certainly worth having.
[Meaning if there's a limited amount he's going to want some too, he'll fight for it. The basket's too small for him to dig around in too so he lets her get on with it, noting her enthusiasm with a smile.]
Certainly had worse final meals, that's for sure. What are ya gonna do now? Are ya going to play their game, or are ya doin' something else?
[He wouldn't normally ask so upfront, but why beat around the bushes? If she was going to kill him outright, he would have already done it.]
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
Dry and scratched, if you please, and her hands are her pride. Her legs, in tattered stockings, are no better, and there's a thin cut on her cheekbone, but she seems to have made the effort to tie her up hair neatly.]
Oh- raspberry. [He might have to fight, because she's hit on a small jar and is spreading it liberally on bread with no plans to hand it over.] I have had better, of course. Hm?
[Licks jam from her finger thoughtfully. Then she reaches into her bag, pulling out a slingshot and tossing it across the table at him]
I am going to have another cup of coffee.
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
Oi, c'mon, don't hog it all if it ain't that good!
[He'd like some for his bread and he reaches across to snatch it, but she's already got it all out by then. Damn. He'll just have to have it plain like in the old days.]
[Catches the slingshot and gives it a look over with interest -- though not as much interest as her finger licking causes but interest. Is this her weapon? Won't be much use in a battle to the death, but if she's giving it to him she's probably not that bothered about that.]
Fair dinkum. Ask what ya'll do when that's over, but think it might be the same answer as me. No idea.
[Crooked smile because she doesn't seem interested in playing, which makes her more trustworthy than anyone who is.]
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
Oh, you must forgive me. [Licking it off her subtly amused lips, now, too. But she passes another jar his way.] Marmalade.
[That is her weapon, and she's not found much use for it beyond shooting down the odd particularly stupid crow. So, she's as good as defenseless.]
None whatsoever. Tell me, are you armed? [Refilling their cups, as casually as if they were taking tea together on the veranda. Didn't she invite him to tea once?] I think I am in need of assistance.
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
Only if -- that'll do.
[Marmalade isn't his favourite but it'll certainly do in this situation and he takes it.]
Armed? Not with anything lethal but armed.
[As she refills, he leans back on his bench slightly, his expression more thoughtful and his voice more cautious. It's not distrust but the caution of a business deal, and even if he's a relaxed nation, he's still a nation. He's never been to tea at her place as far as he remembers.]
Depends on what assistance ya need. And what I get in return.
[As things are, he doesn't need much in return but he's not going to say yes right away to her request. That'd just be unwise.]
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
Shall we have a slice of apple pie...? [She's still consumed with the basket, as though there's nothing more pressing than dessert on her mind, though there's a softness to her voice that wouldn't normally be there.] Ah...now, I have shown you mine. Won't you show me yours?
[Half-joking, not terribly concerned with whatever his weapon is. When he enters negotiation mode, she looks up at him, resting her chin on her steepled fingers.]
I want a good night's sleep. What would you like?
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
[He nods to her suggestion of dessert and lets her get it out. There's a laugh at her question but he doesn't actually show her the blowgun just yet. She doesn't seem too concerned, and if they travel together he'll tell her about it.]
Hmmm.
[A good night's sleep might be pushing it even if he was accompanying here, but it's not unreasonable. He pauses to think it over, and what he wants from her. It's not a big demand but he knows how flimsy alliances between nations can be.]
Company that won't stab me in the back the moment I have it turned. Know that going back on promises of friendship is 'lmost a matter of course, done it myself but this time I -- we shouldn't.
[Drinks his coffee after that, letting the pause grow naturally.]
Also any beer we find is mine.
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
Hmmmm.
[She's quiet in response to his counter-offer, eating, thinking- not deliberating over his request, there's no need to, just thinking. Alliances only become flimsy when there are better options out there, and there's nothing to be gained from this game.
So she opens her mouth to- make a face at him]
What makes you think there will be any beer? [...] Your idea of it is undrinkable in any case.
[A quiet snort of amusement escapes her, and she rubs her aching shoulders.]
Then I put myself in your hands. I have nothing to stab you with. And you may hold me at gunpoint, as long as you let me sleep. [...it's been days, man]
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
Oi, oi. There's nothing wrong with Australian beer.
[Knows a yes when he hears it however and relaxes back on his seat. Negotiation over and with both parties getting what they want for once. Good work for the circumstances, and her putting herself in his hands makes him feel responsible in a way he doesn't normally like, but desperate times...]
Aw jesus, no, just makin' sure you're not playing this game. You'll get your sleep without a gun in ya face, princess.
[Gets his bag up on the table and starts going through it, digging out his map and laying it on the table. Uses his blow-gun to flatten it down, showing that yup, he's trusting her in this now.]
Western town might be quieter after that explosion earlier in the week, possibly more comfortable than sleeping in a tree. Thoughts?
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
That is gracious of you. Thank you.
[Responsible...well, she'll trust him and take his help, but she doesn't expect him to move mountains for her. She flits from one protector to another when the need arises, putting real faith in only certain people (the ones who've betrayed her enough to have gotten bored with it). Toys with a strand of hair at that 'princess', though, as if it triggers an unconscious response]
Ah...what is that? A whistle?
[She sounds slightly hopeful, but she's soon looking at the map. She's seen nothing but forest; she'll go anywhere he suggests.]
I have tried the tree...I will take the town.
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
Ya welcome.
[It might not be obvious with his more...loutish behaviour but he's got a big brother kind of protective streak with the right people, and for now she's got it. He catches her playing with her hair in response but he doesn't give it much thought. Might be feminine wiles after all.]
It's a blow-gun. Non-lethal paralysing darts inside it, not useless but prefer something more...direct if I could choose.
[He nods in response to her agreement, because he's not aware of her complete lack of a sense of direction and the forest is easy enough to get lost in.]
Right then. Pack up anything that's left and we'll head out.
[Since his twin got him some food and beer she can keep it. If they get separated she'll be...well, she'll have food at least. Slides her slingshot back to her as well while he's at it.]
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
Oh...I think it sounds very useful.
[She's also very indirect. She blinks at his words, then slowly obliges, packing the basket neatly, silently taking her slingshot back and staring at it as if it amuses her, before putting it away.]
Ah, well. You will have to excuse my lack of vigour. [Getting to her feet, one of which is still bothering her enough to make her limp slightly. She looks tired and pale, and it's clear he'll have to contend with a slow and unsteady companion. But she's willing to try]
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
Got condoms last time, so better than that.
[Luckily he didn't have to try to kill anyone with them, because that would have been messy and okay, perhaps it's not polite but still. He got lucky this time. As she packs he sorts out his own bag, catching her almost amusement and letting a smile slip onto his own face.]
That's alri-- you're limping?
[Blinks at that, since he didn't see her walk over after all and it's not a good sign. His lips thin for a moment as he gets up and slings his bag over his shoulder.]
If it gets too bad, tell us and I'll carry ya.
[It'll be slow but she's small enough it won't be an excessive strain and they're going to be slow anyway.]
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
You got- good grief! For what purpose could they possibly be useful?!
[When he draws attention to her limp, she looks slightly surprised, looking down at her own foot. But she shakes her head rather gracefully.]
I fell upon broken glass. Brandenburg bandaged it for me. It will be fine. [...Half-smiles again.] But now that you have offered, perhaps not. Lead the way, Kapitän.
Re: Battle Royale - Night 6
[Downright tactful coming from him. He looks down at her foot and frowns for a moment, but her shake of her head distracts him from it. Such poise even in this situation, it seems like more than just a stiff upper lip. That's a proper lady for you.]
Damn, me and my big gob.
[It's obviously a joke and as he leads the way west from the picnic tables, he keeps up with her pace. Hopefully they will be fine for tonight at least.]
