part 363 paper snowflakes

It's... December! I can't believe it's almost the end of another year. Time is weird. Anyway! There's been a lot of neato Hetalia news in the meantime! That game (that I can't get working but will look at videos and screencaps of so I can play vicariously)! The image of the first doll! The musical promo images!! What are you most excited for?

Enjoy part 363!

LONG LIVE THE QUEEN

(Anonymous) 2016-01-07 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
Netflix has released the first trailer for The Crown, its mammoth series about the British royal family under the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

The series — on which Netflix spent an unprecedented $156 million — will comprise six 10-episode seasons, each spanning a decade of Elizabeth’s rule. The first, teased in the four-minute trailer released on Wednesday, will treat the tumultuous politics of the years following the end World War II. Claire Foy, who was Anne Boleyn in the BBC miniseries Wolf Hall, will play the young queen; John Lithgow will play Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

I see.

[She will do so. But come here you pouting little solider you get candy, smile again, will you?]

I was just saying, I am not going to take her side. Yet I do wonder why you never lashed out at her for your own union lasting longer than any of hers.

[That... might have been a great mistake. Also, she still hasn't done anything to "cover herself up properly".]

Are there?

[She will have to watch out then, doesn't she?]

... Herr Preußen. [Yeah, that sounds ridiculous, but okay.] So in a way he's your twin.

[You say that as if she wouldn't know.]

Italien, a crybaby? That IS unexpected... but I suppose I'm prepared now.

[It's not like there is much that could go wrong, right?]

I do drive. Public transport in my corner of Italy isn't really good enough that I can just afford not to. But I don't like it - while I was at uni up North and after that when I was up in Germany I was able to avoid driving so much I almost completely unlearned and had to restart with great difficulty once I came back here. In Italy in general it's necessary, but in other parts of Europe you can do without on a day to day basis without great problem.

Well, all those ages are arbitrary, but Americans have a weird relationship with alcohol, I think.

This is made even funnier if you imagine England having a vaguely antagonistic relationship with technology, as he probably does, being an old man who wishes he could live in the Harry Potter world and write with magic quills. "What is this thing? Six seconds videos? Is your attention span this deprived, you...what in the world is this? How did you acquire this? I don't remember you carrying a camera that evening! What? Your phone has a what? How many pixies inside that tiny thing? You monster!"

it's ok

I was about to confess that I too reshelve books if I only briefly looked at them, with the caveat that at least I understand the organizational systems

As a child I was once the bane of librarians everywhere: I would push all the books in so that they were against the back wall of the shelf, when usually the correct state of affairs is pulled forward so their spines are flush. Oops.

I would stay at the library after school until right before they closed (come wintertime dooming me to walk in the dark to the afterschool club I was supposed to be going to) and then beg the librarian to let me check books out using my school checkout account--iirc, no fines if I was late, but I really wasn't supposed to use it once she'd turned off the school checkout computer. Oh yeah I'm so bad, guys

I loved to shelve books when I was working as an assistant librarian, mostly because I would plop down and read for a few minutes several times along the way, extending the duration of the chore.

On particularly cold days I would eagerly volunteer to make photocopies because the paper would come out so warm.

I also confess to not using the local library much... I kind of prefer my old one's selection UnUa

tales from the crypt being revived (sort of)

(Anonymous) 2016-01-07 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Tales from the Crypt is getting renewed life with a new 2-hour block of horror programming ordered by TNT (why TNT? who knows). The block will consist of multiple programs/segments, including a Tales from the Crypt segment being produced by (oh dear) M. Night Shymalan. It is unknown if the Cryptkeeper will be appearing, since he is a unique character created exclusively for the HBO show and may not be included in the license.

I'm not angry at the police or Germans or refugees or whatever, I'm livid at the scumbags that did this and wish they'd catch them and punish them.

Usually I just pop into the public library for a bit to look at the books they're selling, and then to the free books they're trying to get rid of. I feel kind of bad when I 1. only go in to look and don't take anything, 2. take a free book that used to be on the sale shelf (like what, it wasnt good enough to spend 25 cents-$1 on but I can take it for free, but. im never up for the social interaction of buying a book, esp after work).

but the other day i went in and hung out in the YA section (where i found coraline and read it, even though it used to be in the kids section? which i always feel weird going to), and put that house of night series in numerical order. later i was on the other side in a cubby reading and heard a librarian talking to a guy who was looking for one of the books, and i heard her say "ugh someone messed up these books, we put them in order by title, not number". well shit.

Since Tale from the Crypt hinged so much on the Cryptkeeper I can't imagine they'd bring it back without him. Otherwise it'd just be... Unsettling Stories from the Place of Burial.

Wh--why would you put a series in title order instead of numerical or chronological order

What is this madness
