pornish_pixies was a lj community where people posted, well, porn. of all sorts. ranging from fluff to dark kink but there was a LOT of dark kink as i recall, and moreover the thing is whichever end of the kink spectrum you landed on people were respectful to each other and it was generally established that if someone has a kink that is a squick/trigger for you, it's not a big deal and they have every right to enjoy their kink. this baseline of understanding that people enjoy fictional morally dubious acts without condoning such acts applied in real life, to real people, by doing so - more so than any particular kink itself, that is what i want from fandom.

consider what a 180 degree flip that is from prevalent attitudes on tumblr.

it's not even about the fic, it's about the people. and these people, in these fandoms these days? these are not my type of people.

anyway, pornish_pixies eventually got closed during the great lj pedophilia debacle in which they cracked down on "chan" (what we'd call loli/shota these days i guess, but in fic usually not in images). and that big old drama was the beginning of the end for fun times in hp fandom, perhaps in all fandoms, period. it later reopened, but went completely private and was never as active as in its heyday.

i distinctly remember a great doodle someone posted sarcastically in reaction to this, in which stick figure harry and draco have sex while holding up their drivers' licenses to prove that they are legal.

"chan"...wow, i'd forgotten that term. you know, it's at least understood why we moved from lj, but i don't understand how fandom terminologies and thoughts managed to fall by the wayside along with that change. like "chan" and "slash" which started getting the "yaoi" catch-all even for western fiction, which i found kind of annoying ngl. and then out of nowhere, suddenly the prevailing attitude towards kinks is everyone getting all pissypants and needing to see a big essay in defense along with a therapist's signature or some shit. it used to just be accepted that it's fiction and fantasy--of course you're not going to condone it irl. and everything comes with a warning at the top from content creators, normally, so why take issue when you can choose not to expose yourself to it?
