Ok, this is somewhat related, but am I the only person who was taught never to step on a grave because it's "extremely disrespectful" (my parents' words)?

Because once when I visited the UK, I was in Westminster Abbey where all these royal people are buried in the floor and I felt like a weirdo zigzagging around them all or (even worse) jumping over them in places where the stone took up the entire width of the walkway. And everyone else just casually walked on top of their graves. It actually disturbed me a bit. Is this not considered disrespectful to most people?
