For me it comes down to taste. I prefer the more fluid and emotional performance styles favored by American ballet companies over the technical and analytical performances from current Russian companies. (Also wtf is up with Russian companies and eliminating mime, but adding random ass characters like the jester in Swan Lake? pls no) I would rather watch a less technically perfect Swan Lake where I feel Odette is an actual character that I can feel for and connect with than a Swan Lake where Odette dances perfectly but is robotic in terms of charisma.
