I don't have a problem with flipping, but resellers/scanners ruined my local library sale to an astonishing degree so I'm rather bitter about it.

Before the sale got listed on a bunch of sites for Amazon FBA and other book sellers: Starts at 10 am. Between 10 AM and 3 PM (when school lets out) there might be 5-10 people in there at one time. Very laid back, no feeling of "competition." The sale is known for having lots of gems because most of the books are donations from affluent areas of town and college libraries. I'd say most of my history book collection is from this sale. 3 PM until it closes at 8 pm, it can be a bit crowded. "Bag day" is the only day where there's a line and you have to wait.

Afterwards: Showed up at 9:55 like I normally do since I like going in the morning... there's a line of 40 people waiting to get in. About half have visible scanners on their arms, but I didn't really think about it. I decided to head to the fiction section first to check for a book my mom wanted... maybe 2 minutes later, head to the history section and half of the section is gone, with people either scanning rapidly and tossing them in boxes (which are blocking half the aisle) or just literally scooping the entire self into their bags and boxes. It was insane. They were doing the same to pretty much any non-fiction section, as well as the hardcover kid's books.

It's been the same since then. Now I have to run to the history section and just grab anything that catches my eye if I want good books. The last sale there was a little girl who looked visibly defeated as she reached up for a big Barbie book and someone with a scanner snatched it up along with 4 others next to it.

I know they have a right to do it, gotta make money, etc, but it took the fun out of the library book sale for me and others as well. It's now basically a huge competition between people with scanners/resellers and people who were there to find some cool books for cheap.
