part 367 bears and wolves oh my

YOU DID IT, I'M SO PROUD OF YOU. Well, it's been a year. I hope it was a good one for you--and that 2018 is even better! And maybe we'll finally get that fansub of even one of the musicals... just maybe.

Enjoy part 367!

people are apparently shelving books 'backwards' (page first) and other people are mad

I don't see why people care so much about how other people shelf book. :O

I mean, why do people care about anything

I think people see this as someone using books to "show off" rather than actually read them, which can rub people the wrong way. Like as this Slate article mentioned, that one person suggesting people buy books and cut them up for crafts... ahhhhHhhh...

I feel like if I had a small bookshelf in a "public area" and really cared about keeping a light aesthetic I might do that too. But not with books I'd want to reference a lot, it'd be a pain in the butt!
zeetee: what a spiffy story! (reading is fun)

As a former librarian I have many Opinions about bookshelves

What in the world... like, do whatever you want, but that is literally the least practical way to store books. Maybe one of the reasons people get mad is the implication that the books really are purely there for aesthetics, that the owners aren't even trying to pretend they read their collection if they shelve them so they don't even know where anything is...

Like, it's probably not the case with every single person there but still

For the record, it's pretty much impossible to find a perfectly practical shelving system. I've heard that storing books on their sides is best for the spines and keeping the pages flat, but what happens when you want a book at the bottom of the pile? Timberrrr....

Lots of people already buy books for display only, including fake blocks sculpted like a row of antique books, so I guess this isn't that far a stretch.

Though yes, I agree it's one of those obnoxiously pretentious little details that doesn't really matter but is immediately off-putting.

That said, I am waaaaaaay more horrified at people who cut up books for crafts. Now, if it's a common and useless book, fine, like if you want to chop up Twilight to make a tacky lamp base power to you, but mostly people do it to vintage and antique books unfortunate enough to "look cool" and I'm just like holy fuck noooooo...

+1000, book art gives me the heebie-jeebies. That had better be a mass-produced dictionary you're cutting up, bub!

I also can't stand vinyl record crafts, especially ones that involve melting. I think I just don't like recorded information being destroyed...
