part 367 bears and wolves oh my

YOU DID IT, I'M SO PROUD OF YOU. Well, it's been a year. I hope it was a good one for you--and that 2018 is even better! And maybe we'll finally get that fansub of even one of the musicals... just maybe.

Enjoy part 367!

getting back into writing fanfic?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-19 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to get back into writing fanfic after not writing or really reading, it for almost 1 0years. I'm scared! What sites do people use to upload fic nowadays? Do people still use the same labels/warnings? WHAT SHOULD I KNOW

do it, anon, I believe in you

i think ao3 was a thing ten years ago? I'd upload there, nobody seems to be uploading much at ffnet anymore. wattpad had a brief spike in activity among the young'uns but even they've been porting to ao3. if you put it on tumblr, it may not show up in the tags, which people may or may not even follow anymore

I think the only thing that's changed is people write a lot less sickfic and mpreg these days? a buddy and I were talking about generational fic trends....the popular stuff these days seems to be fluff (as always), an exorbitant amount of aus now featuring text speak and a/b/o judging from the recent ao3 activity (on hetalia anyway)

good luck!

oh also in re: tags, nobody uses "lemon" anymore, but I think people also didn't use that ten years ago so /shrug

The last time I wrote it was definitely out of style! Where I would post we were using "movie" ratings (G, PG, etc)

Yeah Archive Of Our Own seems to be the place to go. Idk if this is a new distinction but I've noticed that in ao3 parlance characterA/characterB means a romantic relationship but characterA&characterB means a platonic one-- ie friends or siblings, etc.

It seems like people are more careful about tagging potentially distressing themes, too? (At least in the only corner of ao3 I frequent, the Adventure Zone fics...) Like they don't avoid writing them into the story, but they tag for just about anything that could cause someone to shy away, from eating disorders to drowning to abuse to what have you. Kinda nice to have a warning right there!

Thank you!

Ahh that's interesting about the / and & designations. I'll take a look at it.

I figured that would probably be the norm because of how people tag things on tumblr and such nowadays.

ty again!

No prob, anon!

Yeah, there seems to be an ingrained culture of being As Specific As Possible in tags, which serves to make searching and filtering very easy. Apparently original works are frowned upon by the powers that be, though, just keep your posts to fanwork and that shouldn't be a problem.

Happy writing!
