sadly, i feel like campy vampire fic has kind of faded out of style (or maybe just merged into other melodramatic sub-sub-genres, like omegaverse or various soulmate-symbol/marking/timer tropes), though then again i've become so disillusioned with fandom these days that i haven't kept up with fanfiction regularly at all so i may well be mistaken.

i should add - i regret sounding perhaps too condescending in my original post, because as it happens i am 100% guilty of writing exactly this kind of cheesy self-indulgent fic (for a different fandom than hetalia though) and have no regrets.

i mean, if you're not gonna have fun being ridiculous in fanfic when else can you, right?
