part 367 bears and wolves oh my

YOU DID IT, I'M SO PROUD OF YOU. Well, it's been a year. I hope it was a good one for you--and that 2018 is even better! And maybe we'll finally get that fansub of even one of the musicals... just maybe.

Enjoy part 367!

It's time for the 31 Days of Meme Halloween! A month of ghouls and ghosts and nightmare monsters! A month of dastardly Halloween discussions, petrifying Halloween picspams, and as always, scary streams.

Today's theme: scariest movie moments! What are some movie moments (horror movies or otherwise) that have truly frightened you? A startling jump scare? A horrifying image? A sound-effect that left you shivering in the night?

oh, and related: Bravo's very fun "100 scariest movie moments" series, which is available on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fydrnB6AhhQ

nightmare on elm street (the original)

[personal profile] witchgif 2018-10-13 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
So, thanks to older siblings, I was exposed to horror movies waaaaaay too early. Think... 4 years old and hiding behind a pillow as Pet Sematary plays on a rented VHS tape. (My Paxcow crush was definitely not developed as a defense mechanism against watching Pet Sematary at 4 years old.)

Anyway, some of the most "oh god I am horrified for life" movie moments came from the original Nightmare on Elm Street. Particularly....

1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEF9GiwHTdc

The school scene where Nancy falls asleep and sees the body-bagged corpse of her friend Tina standing in the doorway. The eerie image of her standing there in a medical bag... the stark redness of the blood... the creepy way that student reads Shakespeare... bumping into femme!Freddy... all culminating in a confrontation with Freddy himself. Just awful. (Also is that Lin Shaye as the teacher??)

2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MLLMASSXSg

Tina's death. Gut-wrenchingly horrible.

3) Can't find a clip but it's during the last act of the movie I think?

So specifically the moment where Tina's corpse head pops up in the window and begs for help before being replaced by Freddy's face. Why? Our door had a little window like that, and I honestly never got over the fear that I would see Tina, Freddy or a combination of the two popping up in it. I honestly don't want to dig more for it since the clip I did pull up of the final chase scene made me jump oops.

the whole movie has horrifying imagery to me. I've only seen this 3 times, and twice was with the meme. Can't watch it any other way.

If you've ever seen these then... you know all those moments where you randomly see Sadako? Like reflected in mirrors or briefly behind the characters? Those terrified me because I never noticed them until I had watched the movie multiple times...

And in Ring 0 birthday, in addition to those moments, the ending scene:

crunch crunch.

I know I've mentioned it before, but I saw a snippet of the climactic scene in Close Encounters Of The Third Kind when I was like four

I remember seeing the tall silhouettes appear from the ship, and the littler ones running around, aaaaaand then all I saw was couch cushions, because I'd buried my face in them.

Bam, lifelong phobia, thanks spielburg >:T

They are scary!! I was scared of them too. For me I think it came from some of those weird 90s shows about alien abductions that were everywhere in that decade.

... Have you ever seen Signs?
zeetee: poor grover. (so embarrassed)

Oh mannnn those weren't helpful either, no! I remember one I saw a little later when our only tv that got channels was black and white. Lemme tell you, a dumb alien prop with fog blowing around it is wayyyyy more atmospheric and foreboding on a grainy b+w tv...

.........No. I expect it has to do with scary space aliums?

Oh no! It would be so creepy in black and white.

Yep!! It has some super creepy moments despite being somewhat silly in the end. I think it might be too scary for you I HOPE THAT DOESN'T SOUND CONDESCENDING ;ad; I just remember you aren't into spooky-scary so I won't link it but I was just curious since it's alien-centric!

Brrr

IT'S OK, MOST THINGS ARE TOO SCARY FOR ME AND I ACCEPT THAT

I have a bad track record with alien stuff, it tends to scare me pretty bad :'D I was up crying all night after seeing ET at summer camp one year...

That said, alien stuff I do like: Animorphs, Star Wars, Doctor Who, and those lil green alien figurines from candy machines, y'know, the ones doin sports and stuff. Used to collect them!
