today's theme: ghost stories

[personal profile] witchgif 2018-10-17 02:42 am (UTC)(link)

today's theme was supposed to be something that required Youtube, oops Ghosts. You might believe in them, you might not. One thing is for certain: they make for excellent stories.

What are some of your favorite ghost stories? Either tales or books or something in between? Do you believe in ghosts? Do you have any personal paranormal experiences you'd like to share?

I went to a restaurant/inn this summer that's supposed to be haunted by an ancestor of mine! I didn't see anything spooky but the risotto was aces.

(I do not believe in all that much paranormal stuff, honestly, it's my one defense against my overactive imagination :'D I can be scared of a thing I'm imagining all day and night but at least I don't truly believe it's real!)

Maybe the ghost of your ancestor made sure the chef didn't ruin the risotto! Like a spooky Ratatouille!!

Unfortunately I can't really remember, or else I'd talk about more than the food :'D It was an inn she ran with her husband. I don't thiiiink there was anything mysterious about her passing--my mom is fuzzy on details and I can't find any specifics online--but she haunts the place all the same. Gotta keep an eye on that risotto, y'know?

I know people say "oh there's logical explanations" but I do believe in ghosts. I've had a few experiences in a particular house that other people experienced, both at the same time and separately.

i do believe, but i think skepticism is healthy because there's often a reasonable explanation for things. but i've shared an experience with someone where we tried to recreate the circumstances to debunk that night several times, and every so often again over the years, to no avail.

my brother's a skeptic but he said weird things happened in the house when he was a kid--stuff moving, bells ringing, and one time he and his friends went running out of the house without even stopping to put their shoes on because they heard a voice shout at them when my parents weren't home. the family dog would also stop and appear to be looking at something in the upstairs hallway and start growling or barking.

this would've been going on when i was just a baby, so i don't remember anything like that, but apparently might've been still been experiencing something. Mom says i never cried as a baby, except for at a certain time: 3:00 A.M., on the dot, every single morning. one night Mom couldn't sleep and was downstairs on the couch watching tv when she said she saw a male figure in a suit and top hat appear at the front door. it rested a hand on the banister, then appeared to ascend the stairs. Mom said to herself, "if the baby starts crying in a minute, then i'll know it's him."

when baby me started crying a minute later, Mom ran upstairs, looked around the room and said, "i don't think you mean any harm, but please stop. can't you see you're scaring her?" she says i never woke up crying again after that.

Mom also said one night a pair of ladies rang the doorbell and said they'd heard there was haunting activity in our house (from whom, they didn't say--probably my brother's friends went around telling others stuff that happened and it got back to these ladies) and they wanted to know if the spirit was a little girl. they lived further up the plan as next door neighbors, and both of them were seeing a little girl spirit on the regular. finally one week one of them didn't have any experiences, as she told the other lady when the latter got back from a trip. said the returned vacationer, "she wasn't at your house because she followed us on our vacation."

there've been several sightings of an army battalion in this plan over the years, heard through the grapevine; my personal experience was on the street that turns into the one where people have seen that, so idk, maybe it's on a leyline or some shit?

I don't believe in ghosts at all.

However, I do believe that people can perceive something that isn't really there. Look up Tandy and infrasound, for example.

I often have to hedge around the concept of ghosts/paranormal when talking with one of my best friends, who strongly believes in them and has had a personal experience which means a lot to her. I think my friend's experience is true in that that is what she truly remembers. But I think it speaks more to her state of mind at the time (I'm avoiding describing the circumstances because it's pretty specific and traumatic, and I don't think this particular story should be shared without permission) than to the existence of ghosts.

I have interest in ghost stories and folklore. And I think we need them - even though I don't believe, I do like having a little cushion of possibility shielding me at times from the stark fact of death.

That said, I fucking detest those obnoxious ~ghosthunting~ shows. And "psychic" assholes like Sylvia Browne, who exploit desperate people for profit.

idk if i believe in ghosts but i blame stuff on them all the time. if something doesn't work: oh maybe its haunted. if something isn't where I remember it being: it was the ghost.

i personally don't think i have any ghostly experiences but i love hearing about them! ghost stories are cool.

i have been warned to never be in this one church alone, though, because apparently its haunted. another leader says it has 2 ghosts, one of a pastor and one of a lady who had a heart attack in the bathroom (and no one is allowed to use that stall anymore). she also said that a girl in the troop saw/heard one last year. idk if i believe it but sure i won't stay there alone, its super dark when the lights are out
