But it's so good for anyone! And for so many different reasons! Think of the pairs who might give in to their desires with the plausible deniability! Or the shy ones emboldened by anonymity! Or the bolder ones, who've done this before, and love to take the lead with the shy!

I also thought of France/England, and, well....France/a lot of different people. But this. That is BRILL and I need it yesterday.

With Denmark/Sweden it's just. So appealing. Someone that neither of them would touch with a ten-foot pole, but then... completely unaware.... 8)

Also, with Denmark/Norway (since it was that fanart that made me think of this scenario in the first place) - initially I had been thinking modern, but now I'm suddenly considering historical possibilities, and when it's set could add a whole other dimension to the thing....

And! And they could be tender about it in a way they'd normally never feel comfortable doing! And somehow manage to scratch all each other's itches. It'd be fantastic!

There's so much you can do with that. I love a good 19th century ball as much as anyone, but please consider one in the 1950s. Not knowing how to interact with each other and only feeling safe about it with the masks on!! Or power inversions in the 18th century!

Denmark and Sweden being weirdly tender... yes. I wonder how they would feel about it after they figured out who they were involved with? Or...

...Actually, when I give it some thought, I'm not sure how good Denmark would be at the whole anonymity thing - no matter what disguise he has on. His voice seems like it would be... uh. Memorable. Not necessarily because of sound but because of volume. Which makes me wonder if Denmark wouldn't cotton on, but Sweden would, and... would follow through anyway?

...Okay I had not considered 1950s masquerade ball but holy shit, now I really like that. They'd both be feeling a little rough, still. And Norway doesn't know how to be around Denmark; he's still trying to get a firm grasp on how to be, period. And Denmark has his own baggage. But with the masks on... even if they know exactly who they're dealing with, that thin line of plausible deniability changes everything. They don't have to know all the answers.

Also plz tell me your thoughts on 18th-century power inversion, I'm all ears.

Depends on your suspension of disbelief, I guess? I feel like knowing each other hundreds of years makes everyone's figures, body language, and speech patterns dead giveaways. Unless that's also the point, that this stranger (or "stranger") reminds them of someone they're not supposed to want. You could play it a lot of ways and still come up with something interesting!

YEAH. The masks put a protective layer of fiction on things for them! Things are still raw and painful, but for one evening, they're just two masked faces-- no more, no less.

Okey, so. It's for sure a fact that the Danish crown held hegemony over the Denmark-Norway thing, and while canon gives us a pretty well-intentioned Denmark, I can't read that as not affecting Norway's perception of their relationship at all. So, just say, for one evening, they can pretend to not be themselves...Denmark discovers he might sometimes sorta kinda like being pushed around.

Maybe it's the wine. Or maybe it's something about the candlelight and the music that gets him all sentimental like this. One look from those intense eyes and sure enough, Denmark's weak in the knees.

The handsome stranger has him up against the wall in one of the curtained arcades that line the ballroom. His kiss is equal parts hunger and restraint, as if he's afraid his touch will break Denmark-- but can't help himself still. Now, it'd take a lot more than this to really make Denmark sweat. It's a rare treat, though, to get handled like something precious. Denmark likes to think he ought to take this back to his room, if it wouldn't defeat the purpose.

He sneaks his hand up under the tricorn hat the stranger's wearing. The stranger only grunts, then guides his hands back down to the lapels of his cloak. Then underneath, to his chest, where Denmark can feel his heart thundering. It's sweet. He's sweet. Denmark really does want to show him a nice time.

The guy's real thick in his hand. Denmark palms him, skin to skin, shivering as he chews the thought over. Fella like this could spoil him good. Denmark could wrap his arms around the stranger's shoulders and let that cock fill him up till he can't breathe. And he could let those eyes --those ferocious goddamn eyes-- strip him raw.

Could, he tells himself. Like he had any choice in the matter. Can't, and won't. But, hey. Sure is nice to dream.

Holy shit. YES this is some good stuff. 8) It's sweet and intense and oh, these two. Such a mess.
And I love that Denmark loves being handled like something precious. Something that probably doesn't happen all that often.

re: the 18th-century stuff from your comment upthread. I really like the way you put it here. It... would definitely affect how Norway sees everything. So now that you mention it, oh yes I am loving this idea. 8) Especially Denmark finding that he likes being pushed around. (In the right time, in the right place, by the right person, when they're both pretending that they aren't who they actually are.) A stray thought about that might have come to him at other times, too, but maybe it's at this particular moment that he feels comfortable letting that happen.

Something that probably doesn't happen all that often.
And would NEVER happen without the masks in this case! (All I want for Christmas is eager bottom Denmark!)
