part 370 fresh flowers on a side table in the morning

Um, 2020 was a year that happened. 2021 is a new year that will happen! With flowers! And side tables! And mornings! And I didn't want to make some sort of 20s-themed name because look what happened in 2020, look what happened.

Enjoy part 370!

So it’s like flicking your Like into a hole? Wow, somehow even more useless than facebook’s system...

Man, what is it with social media companies not understanding how users want to use simple site mechanics? I was about to extoll the functionality of tumblr’s likes but honestly it’s got it’s bugs, too!

I think the argument when they did this in 2019 is that they're trying to... vaguely... make people less obsessive about it? But that's like. Idk. Too little too late. You built a platform that thrives on people striving for likes & follows. If you get rid of the visibility of those, you're literally removing the reason why people use that platform.
zeetee: poor grover. (so embarrassed)

I can see how they thought that was a kindness but it’s also, like... part of people’s business models! And knowing the thing you put out into the world has been seen and appreciated is really validating! I’m sure there could be some other thing that could be done to mitigate negative effects or influence site culture without removing a core functionality of the site...
