I really liked Part 13's maxing, didn't you? It felt very nice, like a lazy summer day. Everyone just laying on the grass outside, watching the clouds go by, talking about virginity and Canada. I loved reading all the "ask a ___ anon" threads, by the way. You guys are interesting. And weird. You should continue them since I'm sure some people got cut off because of the maxing!

I was there last last summer. It depends on where you are re: smog. Beijing is pretty much the no-sun, no-breathing kind of covered-in-smog--it's horrible. But the rural areas are usually pretty smog-free.

As for the drivers... well, just watch out when you cross. In bigger cities they usually have pedestrian overpasses along the streets so you don't have to brave the intersections as much. On the subject of bathrooms--toilet paper is scarce to nonexistent, so stock up on tissues/napkins when you visit restaurants or hotels (I wound up with a whole stockpile in my purse when I got home).

Also, watch your purse/wallet/belongings. Always keep an arm over your purse/bag/whatever because yeah... pickpockets. Other than all that, though? I was there for about a month and it went swimmingly. Keep your wits about you and have fun!

P.S. Oh, yeah, and the exchange rate is something beautiful, as above anon said. By the way, I am so sorry if you're going to visit during the summer. The heat is SO BAD. You will be worshipping A/C.

On the bright side, ice cream stands are EVERYWHERE, and most sell nearly everything for 1 yen. Try some green/red bean popsicles. I had one of those nearly every single day I was there. ♥ Best stuff EVER.
