part 333 wild ponies running free across the plain

Hi meme! How was your week? Mine was interesting. I just made pad thai noodles (this wasn't the interesting part) but the noodles came out too rubbery/chewy and I am disappointed. I'm also on an Izumi Yukimura kick today! Are you on any particular music kicks? (Also, man I wish you could embed videos on Dreamwidth! A gal can dream, I guess.)

Enjoy part 333!

Re: ITT: Hetalia characters you like most, and how you got into them

when I first got into Hetalia, I printed out a bunch of fanart and made a collage to stick on my AP Euro notebook and I looked down at Latvia's face smack-dab in the middle of the collage and thought, "you know what, he's pretty cute, I want to learn more about this guy"

Turkey, I feel almost like I picked him at random and then kind of fell in love idek

Which nation's car would you wank/piss on?

The Great Schism. Preferably the shenanigans that went down in 1438 when the Emperor visited Italy to negotiate with the Pope about religious union and assistance in a Crusade vs the Turks.

this from my notes p much sets the tone for how well negotiations went
> the Greek patriarch arrives and objects to kissing papal foot

  • Whence has the Pope this right? Which synod gave it to him? Show me what source derives this privilege and where it is written? The Pope claims that he is the successor of St. Peter. But if he is the successor of Peter, then we too are successors of the rest of the Apostles. Did they kiss the foot of St. Peter??

I sometimes wonder if they try to treat humans more like

    pets

...this seems like a lot of trouble to go to. I'm neither very tall nor good at climbing, and really wouldn't the end result be less noticeable than, say, bird poo, anyway?

I'd rather create a stupid and obscene bumper sticker and sneak it on all their cars and hope it takes them a long time to notice. ◔ヮ◔

Which nation do you want to give a big hug?

I'd love to hug the crap out of Germany, personally. I feel like he needs it.

Been a long time since I saw a horror movie. I think the last one was that victorian thing with Harry Potter - I mean, Harry Potter's actor. Wasn't especially good, unfortunately.

Do you have any favorite horror movies to recommend?

I don't see many horror movies, I admit, but I do love written horror stories.

    Didn't say I was uncomfortable, did I?

Only bad thing about you not watchin' yourself is that things ain't right clear when you don't, is all.

    /not OP but

do you have a favorite kind of horror? or anything you don't like/want to see?

I would hug Spain. His hugs seem like they would be warm and genuine and he wouldn't mind if you lingered in his embrace.
Other nations would probably get to a point where it would be awkward and they would stiffen up at some point.

    really super relaxing

    Oh?

[He knows he's not very good at sensing the discomfort of others, in this case he just more or less assumed that was the case. For once it looks like he was wrong for the opposite reason]

Well, if you're not uncomfortable or anything do you wanna do more?

[Now that they're on the same page he has no problem being direct. Sex isn't exactly an awkward topic for him, especially when he's interested]

oh darnit I had this big long reply written up and my internet borked D: sorry anon, looks like I should go after posting this.

I think their affection for their own people runs a little deeper than that one has for a pet, the more philosophical nations have no doubt realized they would not exist without their citizenry. They're still very much entities apart from the people, though, and try to respect that difference. Maybe they've fallen hard for one or two humans in their time, but yeah, on the whole, a human and a nation are just going to be able to handle a committed relationship together.

This does not effect the possibility of one night stands, though, hoo hoo.

My favorite horror author is Joe Hill. Favorite horror film... maybe The Orphanage. Both have in common that the characters matter more than the horror - and because you worry and care for them, you're frightened for their sake.

I like also stories that could be considered "gothic" more than horror; the sinking feeling you get when you know you shouldn't be here, when things aren't right - that sort of feeling that happens sometimes when you're dreaming and you half-realize you're in a nightmare but you can't prevent yourself from falling into your mind's trap anyway. Stories about losing control of oneself, like The Yellow Wallpaper or The Red Wagon, tend to stick with me the longest. Or any of Shirley Jackson's stories. Or Monsieur Pain by Roberto Bolano - which isn't really a horror novel, but it has this wonderful sense of unease which builds to a quiet sort of panic.

I guess gore horror is the dullest for me, things where it's just like, oh, well, that's... an unpleasant way to die, I guess? But since it doesn't exactly pull together as a story and you aren't given a great deal of reason to care about the various unfortunate characters who being butchered, it feels like nothing more than a test of one's tolerance for gore.

tl;dr - what about you, anon? What are your tastes in horror?

I can agree with this. I think they've had adopted babies too, but babies with the same name as themselves were born naturally?

    Italy!

Or maybe Sweden, just because I think he'd get flustered and his face would go from its usual intimidating aura to making-babies-cry-and-strong-men-wet-themselves level scary, and it'd be really cute.
