There's bending canon to work with a dark fic premise but still keeping the core of the characters recognizable, and then there's this.

I really like reading about the perspective of the German civilian experiences (both in non-fiction and through historical fiction) during WW2 but I feel like saying I enjoy those books is frowned upon because it "humanizes" the Nazi regime.

...+1 hetalia russia's the opposite of my stereotype of russia in many ways. but, that's true to some degree for many of the characters.

like he's smiley and passive-aggressive, while typically the russian stereotype is scowling and aggressive-aggressive, or at least easily angered and passionate.
