We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

On the flipside people will get mad at you for liking a character that is consider problematic and passive-aggressively complain or openly whine about it.

jealousy isn't cute, it has never been, and it will never be

oh god and it's even better when the 'problem' is something utterly ridiculous that seems ooc for the character to get upset about considering their canon personality - ridiculous for most anyone to get upset about - and it's just like... who the hell is this? why do they need a fucking hour long therapy session followed by massage and complimentary brownies with hazelnut icing on top because somebody made an offhanded joke about their nickname or mentioned a dog that died five years ago or i dunno bumped into them causing them to stub one of their precious porcelain toes? SERIOUSLY??

i don't think this is even projection anymore, it's an attempt to garner sympathy for character x by giving them this exaggerated sensitivity to everything but honestly it does the reverse and i generally want to punt the precious baby directly into the nearest ocean.

Because whether people like it or not, "prussia" is the name of the character.

Yeah, such a crime to want to keep things organized in a logical way!

So you know those posts on tumblr where people post reaction gifs, sometimes pretty generic reaction gifs, and say that's how the hetalia characters would respond to something?

Let's do something like that itt. Post a reaction gif, or multiple, nsfw, whatever you want, and say what it reminds you of in terms of a hetalia character responding to something.

oh god, yes, the ever helpful shipping thought police, those noble safety officers here to remind you that you probably shouldn't date a dark lord or a serial killer or whatnot it's UNHEALTHY.

well, duh! that's why we have this fun place called the fucking imagination where we can enjoy things that are not real.

and then you have the people who label every not perfect couple "abusive" or "problematic" when at worst they just argue or are counterproductive to each other a lot, which is really no better or worse than any real life relationship and hardly "unhealthy"

Any common fanon that people use to improve the characters, give them super amazing skills or remove their flaws?

I noticed that too! The Joan of Arc one was kind of better than the Marilyn vs. Cleo video (which is fucking terrible) but even that had Joan implying Miley was a slut, making fun of her ass, calling her a skank, and Miley calling Joan a virgin.

You do realize that it's irrational for a website with millions of users to cater to your specific organizational desires, right?

For Italy it's definitely taking away all his bubbly happiness, cluelessness and other such traits and replacing them with cold calculation so that he has no problem stabbing Romano in the stomach and watching him bleed to death after pretending he just wanted to hug him. While there's certainly plenty of history that would require a darker and more mature take on Italy (and we know he beat up Turkey, so there's canon support, too), there are some lines that you have to cross very carefully if you don't want to make him totally OOC.

And you realize that this is a thread for complaining about things that annoy us, right?

What if all the nations joke about America only knowing English while they can speak multiple languages, and America goes "fine! I'll learn another language."

And so the others all try to guess which language it is. Spanish? French? Japanese????

But it's none of those. It's Klingon.

Canada... I don't even want to go there, if I hear one more headcanon about how Canada is sweet angelic badass sexy clever yadda yadda I am going to flip a moose. I will admit that Canada is not that fleshed out in canon but christ surely it's possible to fill in some additional headcanon without Stuing him to death.

I also don't want to fucking hear about tumblr's version of France the Angelic Sex Guidance Counselor ever again. I like France when he's mostly sleazy and trollish and perverted. Yes, he has a warmer and maturer and even deep and poetic side to him, but that's all the better taken in tandem with his rascally side. As it is, a lot of France interpretations seem to go directly against what's shown in canon and that disappoints me.

America frequently gets turned into a boy scout slash rocket scientist slash multilingual genius child, and often with an extravagant flair for romance to boot. I'll grant that I think he's much smarter than people might expect due to his rather ditzy personality, and I can sometimes see him pulling off a bit of Hollywood, but ugh come on did we all forget his pushiness and obnoxiousness and egotism? Which, I might add, round him out as a character and are a large part of his charm.

And of course, England the woobie, pooooooooor England, nothing's ever England's fault, weh weh England did you somehow manage to overlook all the many, many times he's a douche in the canon material (something which also applies to other characters, I might add) I mean come on, he's one of the main characters and you've all seen his bad sides in detail SO MANY TIMES. Also, it irritates me when he's just all... suave and gentlemanly and shit. So boring. I don't want fucking James Bond with bigger eyebrows, I want the dorky sourpuss Hetalia England. But often in fanon it's either whimpering UKe who must be constantly be rescued from his insecurities by America/France/whoever, or super smooth seme England.

Disclaimer I do love all four of these characters, by the way. But since we're venting, here's my vent.
