part 363 paper snowflakes

It's... December! I can't believe it's almost the end of another year. Time is weird. Anyway! There's been a lot of neato Hetalia news in the meantime! That game (that I can't get working but will look at videos and screencaps of so I can play vicariously)! The image of the first doll! The musical promo images!! What are you most excited for?

Enjoy part 363!

i'm still sad i didn't save the fic of a particular author before she deleted everything.

however i understand. she had started writing original fiction. as i understand it, she had been considering self publishing. and she had a lot of (great!) fic up involving underaged characters, sometimes with older characters, which i'm sure she soon realized could be a point of scandal or embarrassment if she got big writing her own stuff. and she had given some details in her personal posts, like which school she graduated from and such, that i would advise against to ANYONE, given the current fandom atmosphere with the threat of doxxing.

even if you write very vanilla un-"problematic" pairings, consider what it would feel like if someone used the bits of personal info you've given to find out your real name, contact your family members or your boss, to be like HEY CHECK OUT [X]'S GAY ANIME NATION PERSONIFICATION PORN.

so... i totally understand her choice, and though i'm sad and honestly just really wish she had been more private on her blog so that she wouldn't have needed to take such a drastic precaution, i get it.

i myself am very paranoid about fandom these days. i change my writing and punctuation style for different aliases (for example, whether i use an oxford comma; what sort of dash i use and if i put spaces around it; if i write in all lowercase) and i keep different aliases per fandom, and i've outright lied about details of my life to make sure of my anonymity. i never show my face. i would advise others to do the same. especially after what happened with that one writer in wtnv fandom.

someone else may remember more clearly this wank. but as best i can recall, there was a wtnv fanfic writer who got an actual writing credit on an episode of the actual wtnv show, or joined their staff, or something like that. which is pretty neat, congrats to her and all.

however somebody dug up that she ad written noncon in her fanfiction and called her out for it. i don't know if this was a full on doxxing as in they dug up her real name which she had not revealed, or if she had already revealed her real name herself and just had not realized the content of her fanfiction would stir up such a wank as it did. but either way, you can imagine the mess.

i had not read this author's work (wtnv was never one of my main fandoms), but a bit of this drama fell onto my dash. this along with a few other stupid wanks (let's not start on YOU DIDN'T IMAGINE [CHARACTER] THE EXACT WAY I WANTED YOU TO, THIS IS A PROBLEM! CHANGE IT! CHANGE IT! this character's appearance is entirely up your imagination UNLESS YOU IMAGINE SOMETHING DIFFERENT FROM ME AND THEREFORE PROBLEMATIC!!!) made my impression of wtnv fandom very negative and eventually i ended up blocking the fandom altogether, though i still like and listen to the podcast itself sometimes.
