part 369 prohibition cocktails

Meme, you did it! And on Christmas, too!! How fancy. How was your year? It's almost the new year and I don't know about anyone else, but I'm excited to enter the 20s. We can finally bring back some excellent slang, like "That sounds berries to me!" or "I guess I'd describe myself as a cancelled stamp." Have a good year... and don't take any wooden nickels!

Enjoy part 369!

I got the Knives Out bluray and it comes with a "harlan thrombey" novel that was in the movie (it's like 40 pages maybe, not long at all) but omg it's so cool AND THEY NEED TO PUBLISH MORE OF THESE.

I'm interested in the new Secret Garden adaptation, but I'm hoping that the trailers are misleading and that they don't try to go the "it's ACTUALLY magic!!" route.

i used to ship dickon and colin as a kid

mostly because i read a really well-written fanfic of it by someone who also had a harry potter fic site

I used to be terrified of Colin, but I blame that on one of the movie adaptations

i actually have not seen any movie adaptations, just read the book. i could see how they'd frame him to be scary, because he was intimidating before he got softened!

Recently I heard about the movie "Jojo Rabbit" and my first
thought was "It would be interesting to watch it with the meme". Since most of us enjoys WWII satire to some degree, I would assume.

I've seen it! I really enjoyed it but it definitely struggled with the tone at times.

I feel like one of the issues with the film's tone is that it was 100% on Taika to create it, because the book that Jojo Rabbit is very (very, very, very) loosely based on is... completely not a whimsical satire do-ho-ho-in-the-face-of-Nazis film. It's a creepy dark book that combines a Hitler Youth character with a growing lustful obsession that reminds me of that old book & film, The Collector, about a young man who kidnaps a young woman. It's... a completely different tone.

So almost everything about the film had to be built from scratch, aside from the basic premise.

I didn't know it had drama. From what I seen, I was thinking it was a complete satire. Interesting.

The drama element is honestly like a ... PUNCH type of scene. It's pretty interesting.

Watched recently: Promare. Really enjoyed it. It was so fun!

Upcoming: Kind of curious about the new Emma. I wasn't really a fan of the book, but I read it at a bad time and I feel like I didn't give it a decent chance. The trailer looked fun.

Everything I've heard about Emma so far suggests it's fun!

If there's a morning discount showing, I might see it. Because why the hell not, really. :D

Never seen any of the previous adaptions; maybe I should. Or maybe re-reading the book would be better....

I've never read the book or seen any adaptations myself, but I do love a good period film!

I still want to go see Birds of Prey, and also The Invisible Man

I feel like one of the few people who has no interest in The Invisible Man, even with all the amazing reviews.

i honestly thought it would get horrid reviews and bomb, just based on the trailers. little did I know.

+1

The trailers make this look like a very cheesy Do You See The Abusive Relationship Metaphor DO YOU DO YOU???? kind of issues fic thinly disguised as horror movie.

I usually do like horror as a vehicle for exploring psychological and social issues but this trailer felt way too hit you over the head preachy.

But sometimes stuff just has a bad trailer. Lots of trailers show way too much and give too little credit to the audience.
