part 369 prohibition cocktails

Meme, you did it! And on Christmas, too!! How fancy. How was your year? It's almost the new year and I don't know about anyone else, but I'm excited to enter the 20s. We can finally bring back some excellent slang, like "That sounds berries to me!" or "I guess I'd describe myself as a cancelled stamp." Have a good year... and don't take any wooden nickels!

Enjoy part 369!

I feel like one of the few people who has no interest in The Invisible Man, even with all the amazing reviews.

+1

The trailers make this look like a very cheesy Do You See The Abusive Relationship Metaphor DO YOU DO YOU???? kind of issues fic thinly disguised as horror movie.

I usually do like horror as a vehicle for exploring psychological and social issues but this trailer felt way too hit you over the head preachy.

But sometimes stuff just has a bad trailer. Lots of trailers show way too much and give too little credit to the audience.

/shoves your face into the abusive relationship metaphor

LOOK AT IIIIT

yeah I got the same impression. I mean apparently!! most people are saying it's very good (I actually haven't found a bad review yet) and there's people saying "the trailers do not give everything away, edge of my seat," etc but.. who knows.

I'm also somewhat leery of like... good reviews being just "I agree with this work's stance on these issues" or "this work seems quote-unquote important/timely/hashtag-y" versus "this work is well written and performed."

Especially recently, I suppose I ought to be more glad, as a feminist, for the attention and praise lavished on feminist films but I also feel like there's such a slant right now that in let's say 10-20 years when, optimistically, the public is generally more egalitarian we're going to look back at some well-reviewed And Now For A Very Special Message movies with clearer eyes and see that they're actually kind of cheesy and ham-fisted.

But, I will admit I have a particularly low tolerance for heavy-handed messaging. It makes me grumpy, even when I agree with the intent behind the work it's just too grating for me to enjoy.

This work agrees with me =/= this is good work.
