part 370 fresh flowers on a side table in the morning
Um, 2020 was a year that happened. 2021 is a new year that will happen! With flowers! And side tables! And mornings! And I didn't want to make some sort of 20s-themed name because look what happened in 2020, look what happened.
Enjoy part 370!

Re: prompt thread - early morning(s)
Hellas sits at the prow of the creaking trireme, gazing out across the wine-dark waves under a star-scattered sky. It’s been slowly brightening for a while now, and Hellas is uncharacteristically patient, waiting for dawn’s light.
(Slow, plodding Kemet is always admonishing Hellas to pace herself, there will always be another century, always be time to enjoy life. Crete is always sighing at her unbounded energy, her frantic drive to discover new things and pull them apart to make them work better for her. If either of them could see her now, still and serene as a statue!)
There is no land visible in any direction, which could have made a young nation feel small and scared, but Hellas takes quiet joy in it instead. Nothing blocks her view, she feels she can see forever, and she will soon see—ah! There in the east, rosy-fingered dawn peeking over the horizon! The warm light casts the waves in stark relief, light and dark coexisting. It’s a magical time, entirely hers as the crew sleeps below, and she feels like flinging her arms out to the expanse of the open sea and yet also wants to cradle the moment close to her like a small treasure.
In the end she just smiles at her special secret and turns away from the rising sun to get some breakfast from belowdecks.
(Even when nobody is around to see, she’s practicing to be a mysterious, regal lady. One day Kemet might look upon her as a worthy equal rather than indulging the antics of a scrappy kid.)
The bright sea surrounding her little ship holds boundless potential: soon there will be people to meet, fight, or trade with, and stories to learn and tell. The world is waiting for her to reach out and grasp it.

The creative process is so magical, I went into this wanting to write about young hellas and also a sunrise I watched from a ferry once, and in the process uncovered little gems like those juxtapositions. Glad you liked it!
