The quality is still generally high; when it DOES get fanworks. the pixiv tag has a pattern of updating every other/few days or so, and then can go almost a full week (if not more) with nothing at all, sadly.

Kink meme fic for it seems to have dried up completely... even though it used to have a lot of dedicated writers/fillers writing goodfic for it back in 2010-2012.

Goodfic on FFN and AO3 seems to be less and less these days, unfortunately.

The tumblr tag barely has anything but the same pixiv fanart and the same users posting it over and over... interest over there for it seems to be much less compared to interest in it during the LJ days. Other pairings for both seem to be getting a lot more attention (for good reason, but.)

Surprisingly, a couple doujin circles seem to still be going for this pair - I just hope their inspiration doesn't dry up eventually, too... some of them have been making doujin for the pair for quite a while.

I love Australian accents

I know, and it's probably one of the things that keeps this ship from being my OTP, and I don't want to handwave it by saying "Oh, it started as hatesex but then it turns out there was other stuff". I don't read a whole lot of fic for this, either, since not much suits my tastes and I'm also lazy, so I haven't absorbed many ideas from other RusAme shippers. Hm.
Maybe they found a way to connect using their sentimentalism for the past. They would have to start respecting each other just a little. Then they could move away from a sucker-punch kind of relationship to an arm-wrestle kind of relationship. Just a little more structure and regulation. That is what I want.

So if you were to compare it to something, FrUK would be louder and more animated in their fights than RusAme, but France and England have also been growing up next to each other for centuries and centuries and they already do have a relationship that goes beyond competitive animosity. So it's not exactly like that, but it would be in the same neighborhood? The same city?

So this Malteser thing is basically a malt ball? I used to love those as a kid, haven't had one in a while though.

WELL. I love their canon interactions. I love how Lithuania has endured a massive amount of suffering at Russia's hands, blames him for everything, and wants to keep lots of distance. Yet Lithuania also knows that Russia has gone through plenty of shit himself, and understands him more than many ever could. He has that big brother instinct and it will extend even to that bastard, causing him all the more problems. I like the idea that he knows Russia is strangely attracted to him, and he's really creeped out by it, but also knows he can make Russia happy for a few seconds and maybe he'll take the chance to comfort him.

(I might enjoy Russia/Ukraine for similar reasons but all we see of their relationship is fluffy sibling love with occasional thorns of passive-aggression or manipulation. I also get nightmares every time I read about Russian-Ukrainian history, not even exaggerating.)

On Russia's side, I think his feelings were, at first, just about gaining territory around a sea and having another subordinate. Lithuania happened to be the main target because he was the "primary" Baltic. But Russia grew fond of Lithuania's kind personality, and has fun with his short fuse. It grew into a widdle crush, even if Russia still sees him, and the rest of his subordinates, as his children, little siblings or toys. But Lithuania's also the one who can leave most easily, and if he leaves the other Baltics will follow, so Russia becomes more and more possessive and gets the wrong idea about their relationship. In modern day, with Lithuania gone from Russia and fully rehabilitated with Poland, Russia's still not completely over him and those feelings of loss and nostalgia are still pent up and released with stalking.

This ship is fucked up and unhealthy for both of them and I love it.
