I really want to run my own business one day, but it might just be a pipe dream. And I need to get much better at organization to have any hope of making it. And besides that, I'm sure we all know the stats of how most small businesses die within the first year or two.

But I still like to nurse this dream, especially during stressful weeks like this. Even if I wouldn't make as much money as I would working for a company, if I could make a living on my own ideas it would be a beautiful life.

MoviePass pulls its service from certain AMC theaters

MoviePass and the AMC Theatres chain have never exactly enjoyed a rosy relationship, and the latest step in their conflict came today, as MoviePass pulled support from some of the chain’s most high-profile locations. Deadline reports that the service is no longer supporting ticket purchases at theaters like the AMC Empire 25 in New York, Universal City Walk near Los Angeles, and the AMC Loews Boston Common.

Whomp whomp. And based on some comments by MoviePass customer service, I have a feeling pulling out from AMC altogether isn't far behind. MoviePass is trying to strong-arm AMC into giving them a percentage of ticket sales.

I have a MoviePass but I know it won't last for much longer... it won't be that much longer before there's either a major price hike or change to how many movies you can see (maybe with the introduction of tiers tiers, $10/month gets you 5 movies, and so on) or a severe limitation on what theaters they will allow you to access, with this AMC issue being the first sign of trouble.

The reason why they're closing down those specific AMCs is because they are the ones that cost MP the most money--so by taking those theaters off their service, they're saving hundreds of thousands of dollars.

i'm weirded out by how the girl gamers on twitch seem to be universally good looking and dolled up for the camera whereas 95% of the guys are all objectively plain at best, and often really messy looking, clearly hasn't dressed for the occasion or anything. it's like an unspoken law of streaming.

i fucked up my sleep schedule pulling all nighters to get projects done because what is time management. now for the last few days, i've been sleeping from 7am to 3pm. this...is not ideal, not least of all because i think the lack of daylight is adversely affecting my mood.

My sleep schedule is so fucked because of freelancing! night is the only time I can have genuine peace and quiet to work.

Also ughhh juggling 3 different freelancing jobs is frustrating, especially when no one in my family really respects it as work and I live at home, so I'm constantly obligated to drop everything at a moment's notice to (babysit/run errands/clean). I've lost out on hundreds of dollars because of it... yay.

What are your thoughts on people who use book scanners or other reseller tools at library book sales? There's been quite the hub-bub about it on social media and such lately.

i don't see a problem.

i generally roll my eyes at people who go all sour grapes at the idea of somebody else -gasp- making money via yard sales, thrift shops, or whatever.

anybody with the ambition can get the app or whatever and do this themselves; it's not as though someone's "cheating" at sales by having more forethought.

likewise, any library, thrift store, or person holding a yard sale could look up values themselves if they want to get the most profit. if they don't care to do so, or if it suits them better to get rid of stuff fast and cheap, then that is the choice they need to live with. nobody is taking advantage of them or tricking them into pricing something lower.

to me, the main benefit of these sales is to keep books or other used items in circulation and being appreciated - and not letting them go to waste or get destroyed or contribute to our already overflowing landfills.

i don't have a book scanner or whatever, but you can bet i use my phone to double check prices at every sale i go to. i do not resell things, but i have gotten some great deals, especially on art books.

i was just reminded today of the tradition that if a beekeeper dies, their family has to go tell the bees. like literally go tap politely on the hive and inform them that such and such has passed away, but please stay because we will take care of you in their stead.

because apparently if you offend the bees, they'll stop working or leave. bees don't stand for no disrespect.

and this makes me really happy. it's simultaneously funny, sad, and a bit heartwarming. it's charming to think that in this sense the beekeeper kind of considers the bees as respected partners in the business - of all animals we farm i wouldn't have expected such status extended to the distinctly un-cuddly, short-lived, literally prickly little bee, which makes it even sweeter.
