i don't know...i want to try to start writing again, too, but :/ at first i got excited to after really getting into a fandom, but then antis gave me fandom-fatigue. and i've only ever written bits of pieces of things years before, not any finished one-shots or stories. i keep getting stuck on details. will someone give me flak for putting something in that i thought made sense, but doesn't really? how do i get from point a to point b? how do i people in fic when i can't into people irl???

i want to watch the bye bye man

a friend told me this is the dumbest, (unintentionally) funniest film of 2017. i just need to find people to watch it with - i feel like humor that comes from a film just being completely incompetent doesn't work as well watched alone.

finally read most of* the house of leaves. meh. i think i might've liked this as a short story or a novella. i do appreciate the creativity of the author in putting things together in an unusual way. but i think the missing link for me is that this isn't scary or unsettling enough to work as horror, but it's also not written eloquently or incisively enough to work as literature. i dunno, maybe this book got hyped up too much before i read it, and so my expectations were unfairly high. but i just... don't find it as clever as it clearly thinks it is, and certainly not as emotionally resonant as it also clearly thinks it is. the main character also comes across as a gary stu. the author reminds the reader too often that he's handsome and successful and his wife is beautiful; multiple other characters are envious of him in some way and/or desire his wife (they practically exist in the story only to show how inferior they are as men and as potential partners vs our noble protagonist stu) and it just reads like cheap wish fulfillment fantasy.

*i confess by the end i was skimming to see what happened because i'd lost interest beyond wanting to know who dies.

Mother and father got a little tired from building Communism, so they want to go to Moscow to buy vodka. They call their most trusted babysitter. The militia found all three of the house occupants dead because KGB killed them for trying to cover Lenin's statue. And militia arrested parents for not having a Lenin statue.
