Meme, I'm writing a story about wizards (or witches, sorcerors, mages, whatever), and I want to take a quick poll!

What's your favorite word for someone who can use magic? I'm trying to use the same word for both male and female magic-users, and also trying to keep it to something most English-speaking people already recognize and won't sound too stupid after typing it a thousand times, but I'm still kind of stumped.

i think it's also fine to use one term and then separate it as needed. like for example we refer to actors in general as actors, and you could split it into actors and actresses but one assumes that when you say 'actors' you mean both male and female.
